Driving in your old, little gasoline car for as long as possible

An electric car is clean, right? It seems that way, because the visible impact of traffic in our cities is being shifted to hidden impact due to mining on the other side of the world. For manufacturing the battery, scarce minerals and metals like lithium, copper and silver are used. In addition, nitrogen and ozone are released during the production of the battery. And the CO2 emission of an electric car is not zero, unless you run it exclusively on green electricity.

An electric car has about 30% less impact than the petrol car. As the hidden impact of the manufacturing process is substantial, it would be best to first drive your small petrol car for as long as possible, before buying a new electric car. Buying a second-hand electric car is even better!

The impact of a petrol car is very visible: the air quality in our cities is deteriorating, we suffer a lot from particulate matter. However, it is better for the environment to use your current petrol car for as long as possible and only buy a new electric car when it is completely used up. This is due to the hidden impact of the car manufacturing process. From the energy it takes to make a car, you can drive a car for 5 years.

Hidden Impact

We as Western consumers have much more impact than we think. Not only in our daily activities in and around the house or weekly at the gaspump, but mostly on the other side of the world, by producing and transporting the things we buy and use daily. We as consumers ultimately pay for that hidden impact and we keep the system in position. This book gives you background information and practical tips, so you can have a positive influence.
